James Hunter

"Hi my name is James, I have been a teacher now for roughly about 13 years. I have been doing teaching and range of different roles within schools including coordinators' positions, leadership positions and have also taught in a ray of different subjects as well. Over the past four years teaching has become very different I think. Covid and things like technology have a lot to speak for that and I think teachers and education is becoming more difficult to teach in and understand the students that are in front of us. So, I mean questions like why we teach I think are very important because some days when I go home I question why I am doing this and whether I want to continue doing this, but I think why is a very powerful question. So for me the why really comes from getting students to find their passion in things. When you wake up in the morning you have got a reason to get up and a reason to do these things and find students who have particularly a passion in art and music for me was always the reason why I got into teaching. I have had so many beautiful experiences over the 13 years watching students find their why and find things like art and music and technology are their passions and running with that and finding brilliant careers with that too. That for me is the reason why I am still here and still trying to push students, particularly in vocational education at the moment to find their passion for something and the reason why they want to get out of bed in the morning."
