Justin Gane

"One of my colleagues has the same class as me but for another subject and one morning my Year 7 class came in and they start responding to me when I'm saying the roll by saying "Good morning Mr...uhh.. uhh.." and it gets to maybe 5 students down the roll and I'm kind-of-like, what's going on? It get to the point where I actually correct one of them saying "Gane, it's Mr Gane, you all know me by now". I continue on the roll and they all keep doing it "Good morning Mr umm.. umm...". It turns out the other teacher, who is a friend and a colleague who has them had organised them to do that because on the parade that week I had forgotten her name in front of the entire school. So I guess while there are some incredible teaching moments, I think some of the things I love about teaching are purely those moments where you can experience a bit of joy, or a joke with kids and you just see them all laughing and having a bit of fun and it was genuinely was a moment where I was laughing with them. Particularly with the Year 7s seeing them do that and engaging with them is such a beautiful thing."
