"I've actually been doing my backup career for the past 22 years. I initially wanted to be involved in television production. I got through my university degree, got into broadcasting school and thought, I'm done. My mum told me I had to do something, and why don't I try teaching. I went and did my teaching diploma and the first time I walked into a classroom where I had full control of the class as a student teacher, I realised that this is what I actually wanted to do. Nothing beats this, this is awesome. I'm passionate about education. I'm passionate about learning new things and encouraging kids to learn new things as well. It seemed like the right fit. It's my backup job. I've been doing it for 22 years and I think the highlight of my career has to be 2022. While everybody else was going through Covid and all the lockdowns and stuff, we didn't do it quite so much. The groups of year 12s I had for both my Care class, my Literature class and my Film and Television class, they were hands down, 100% the best human beings I ever taught. It wasn't a teacher-student relationship, we came to the classes as equals. We shared knowledge. They taught me, I taught them. I consider a large number of students I taught to be personal friends now that they have left school. I look really fondly on that. I can't pinpoint exactly what about it worked, but that was the pinnacle of teaching for me. It wasn't hard, it wasn't onerous, it was fun, and it was enjoyable. Kids got on and did it, we all just got on and we had fun. And that is what teaching is supposed to be. It's supposed to fun, it's supposed to be enjoyable."
